FULL LENGTH PLAYS

CULRA

A glory-seeking English hillwalker, a middle-aged 'Munro bagger', is forced to shelter from an unrelenting snowstorm in an abandoned mountain bothy which he finds occupied by a feisty young Scottish woman, a former ‘gentleman’s club’ hostess, who is fleeing a controlling gangster boyfriend. Their encounter is as stormy as the unusually severe winter Highland weather that engulfs them, as the two struggle not only to come to terms with one another but also to lay the ghosts of their troubled pasts.

Culra received a Zoom reading at Player Playwrights in January 2022 and a staged reading at Actors and Writers London in November 2023.

IN A TIME OF CRISIS

British democracy is in crisis and rehabilitated former Prime Minister Anthony Peters believes he is the man to save it. Problem is, he has a further skeleton in his closet in the form of a mysterious young woman, Freya, who turns up begging for his help. Can Anthony save democracy before his murky past catches up with him?

In a Time of Crisis received a staged reading at Player Playwrights in October 2018.

ONE ACT PLAYS

THE JURY ROOM

It is the eve of the Eurovision Song Contest and the national juries are voting. Idealistic young juror, Yusif, attempts to manipulate his country's vote to make a public protest against its authoritarian regime. Fearing the consequences for her protégé, elderly head juror, Sabina, desperately tries to stop him and finds her own political views coming under uncomfortable scrutiny.

The Jury Room received a staged reading at Player Playwrights in May 2023.  The play formed part of the 'Power and Protest' production at The Drayton Arms Theatre in London on 2nd and 3rd June 2024. A video of this performance will be released on YouTube in August 2024.

THE PALACE GARDEN

A palace gardener is cornered by his employer, a brutal but beleaguered dictator, who astonishingly hands him the power to determine his fate and that of the entire nation. There is one caveat. To ensure that the gardener acts 'like a leader' and not out of self interest, whatever he decides he will die.

The Palace Garden received a Zoom reading at Player Playwrights in January 2021. It was a winner of the Scenesaver 'Just Write' International Playwriting Award and received a staged reading at The White Bear Theatre in London in March 2023. The play formed part of the 'Power and Protest' production at The Drayton Arms Theatre in London on 2nd and 3rd June 2024. A video of this performance was released on YouTube in July 2024.

RADIANT BLUE

When ageing rock legend Alfie Norris unexpectedly encounters erstwhile 'South Essex small town stunner' Amber Clarke in a hotel room in his home town, he sees the chance to exact his long-awaited revenge on the woman who spurned his advances as a teenager. However, unbeknown to Alfie, Amber is on a revenge mission of her own.

Radiant Blue is still in development.

SHORT PLAYS

SEX ON THE BEACH

An awkward and largely 'silent' encounter on Brighton beach between a woman who has, yet again, been dumped by a boyfriend, and is 'done with men', and a sexually frustrated man who is an 'admirer of beauty' and is enjoying a rare weekend's freedom from a cheating and domineering wife.

Sex on the Beach first received a staged reading at Barons Court Theatre's Sunday Fix event in October 2023. It received a second staged reading at Actors and Writers London in December 2023. It was then performed as part of Optik Theatre's Scriptroom production in March 2024.

BATAVIAN

Ruthlessly ambitious parliamentary researcher, Ricky Carter, assistant to the Hon. Hugh Dundas MP, is determined to do 'whatever it takes' to reach the top in politics. However, young Ricky is about to discover that gaining admission to the ranks of the powerful and privileged is a lot trickier than he bargained for.

Batavian received a staged reading at Player Playwrights in December 2019 and was shortlisted for the Windsor Fringe Kenneth Branagh International Playwriting Award in 2020. It formed part of the 'Power and Protest' production at The Drayton Arms Theatre in London on 2nd and 3rd June 2024. A video of this performance was released on YouTube in August 2024.

THE GRADATIONS IN BETWEEN
(MONOLOGUE)

For most people, taking an early evening walk along a seaside prom is an unremarkable affair. But not for Sam. For Sam is a trans woman.

The Gradations in Between was shortlisted for the Hive North 'Outstage Us' event in 2023.

A MATTER OF SOME DELICACY

'Everton throw away points after African goalie makes right royal mess of clearing his lines'. Black British television presenter Sarah Smith's tweet has caused 'something of a stir' and she is about to suffer the consequences.

A Matter of Some Delicacy received a staged reading at Player Playwrights in May 2023.
